NEWSFLASH: THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO SEE GABBI AND I POUNDING OUR LITTLE LEGS THROUGH THE STREETS OF LONDON......DRESSED UP AS THE 118 TEAM!!!!!! (maybe!)
The charity we are running for is ACTSA - Action for Southern Africa, which grew out of the Anti-Apartheid Movement in 1994. The charity focuses on promoting empowerment in the region through development, justice and democracy. Some current campaigns include the 'Dignity' campaign which distributes sanitary pads to women in Zimbabwe, and with the upcoming UN climate summit in Copenhagen, another focusing on climate policy with an emphasis on the human impacts of global warming. The burdens placed on women in particular as a result of global warming are highlighted, who due to traditional gender roles and the limitations of their positions as primary care givers are often worst afftected by failed crops, drought, flooding etc. HIV/Aids remain high on the development agenda also, as well as campaigning for trade justice and corporate accountability. As a part of the world I have never had the privilige to visit, running for ACTSA has afforded me a wonderful opportunity to learn more about this fascinating and inspiring part of the world, and will be certain to enrich my travels when they do happen.
Sooo...the London Marathon? A lifelong dream and taking place this year on April 25th (two days after my birthday!) Our mission is to raise £1,000 each, and running across that finish line having raised £2,000 for ACTSA between us would make me and wassy very happy and very very proud!!!! So please support us, every little amount will help to close in on this currently slightly intimidating target, and we will love you forever - especially all you empoverished recent graduates! No birthday presents please from anyone who would have been so kind - just donations. Hope to see many of you in London in April, and maybe at some crazy Forest-Gump fundraising parties before!!! and THANK YOU all for reading and supporting!
