WOW what a beautiful day we had! Having stayed overnight in Slough with 3 generations from my family – mum, sister and nieces we set off for the venue where we met up with Trish Hand aka Trish Reindeer and Amber & Fred Bauer. Human Race (the organisers) run a slick machine and Amber & I were soon registered, time-chipped and ready to go I in Wave 11 at 12:50 and Amber at 13:10.

I’m raising money for the African Child Trust and I’d like to smash the target, so far just over 40% sponsorship has been received (thank you), due to me concentrating on the training! The page is still active so if you’ve not yet donated please dig deep because you can still sponsor even though I've completed this challenge. Whether you want to make a difference to the education of orphans and vulnerable children or whether you're just happy that I’ve achieved this big challenge, please sponsor me…
£20 will provide for a child and their mother for 1 month
£50 will cover accommodation expenses for a child for 6 months
£60 will help to provide training in business skills for a needy widow, thereby empowering her to generate sustainable income to support her family
£180 will provide education as well as material and food support for a disadvantaged child or orphan for one year ( this will cover school fees, school uniforms and food)
£210 will help us send a skilled volunteer to provide training for teachers in schools to improve the quality of education of their student.
£600 will pay for a full year tuition, accommodation and feeding for a student in Africa

The 1 leg is the open water swim and boy did I take my time! To put it into context the fastest was 5 mins and I came in at 27 mins! My swimming ‘technique’ doesn’t look pretty with my arms, legs and breathing all over the place but I knew that if I remained calm I could do it. Trish Reindeer, super supporter was shouting “Go Rosemary, you can do it” so vociferously that the lady in a kayak following me asked me if my name was Rosemary!!! When I finally climbed out of the lake I felt victorious that the biggest battle had been won and I would have burst into tears but for an official telling a joke!
-
In the 2 set on my way round on my bike friends and family led by Trish Reindeer were flying a flag (see pic) and I honestly can’t begin to say how special that made me feel and I think that why I did the race in 58 mins much faster than my practice runs of 1hr 20 mins! On my 1 lap I saw my nieces fiancé but thought I was seeing things until the 2lap when I say my niece Joy I almost fell of my bike - they hadn't told me that they were coming.
-
The 3 and final leg was the run which I’m more comfortable with but after the swim and bike my legs didn’t want to run and 5km felt like 20km at least. As I went round I heard total strangers say “Go Rosemary” another said “well done 329” because they’d cheered me on during my epic swim! It was also great that Amber Bauer gave me High 5’s as she sprinted past me twice!
-
After 2 hrs, 17 mins and 50 secs I finished! WOOHOO!!! With all my heart I thank everyone for your wonderful words of encouragement and tips from Robin a fellow triathelete; I most especially thank the doubters who spurred me on!!! Special thanks go to Trish Hand who was not only a champion supporter but also provided us with a sumptuous picnic lunch! Thanks also for my super trainers at http://www.tri4u.co.uk (Barry & Phil Jameson) and "in house trainers Andy, Matt and Annabel). And also my family – mum, Patricia, Joy & Simon, Maureen, Linda and Grace and last but not least Amber and Fred Bauer.
