Adidas Women's 5K Challenge 2009 · 6 September 2009 ·

We are the UK’s leading membership charity campaigning for gender equality and women’s rights at work, at home and in public life. Our vision is a society in which women and girls in all their diversity are equal and truly free to fulfill their potential creating a stronger, happier, better future.

Story

It's 5K time again, where I get off my bike and try to remember how to use my feet!

We all did this last year, and it was *brilliant* - there is nothing like running around the track with your 'this is what a feminist looks like' t-shirt on and having someone recognise it and say 'Fawcett! Hurray!' I truly recommend it. So if you do want to sign up and run with us, go to www.womenschallenge.co.uk, type in Fawcett as the charity you're raising money for (we're at 1-3 Berry Street, London EC1V 0AA) and drop us an email to let us know you've joined the team on events@fawcettsociety.org.uk. The race is in Hyde Park in London and we all go for tea and cake afterwards (and you don't have to run - you can walk it!)

If you don't want to join Team Fawcett, then please sponsor me to do the run. We've done some awesome work since last year - like changing the way lap dancing clubs are licensed so local communities can have a say in whether they can open - and shaping the Equality Bill to stop it weakening protection for pregnant women at work. But there's so much to do - only 7 out of every 100 reported rapes results in a conviction in England and Wales; the pay gap is actually getting worse (it's currently at 17.1%), and 30,000 women lose their jobs every year just for being pregnant.

We'll be using all the donations we get from this appeal to further our campaigning work and protect and progress women's rights, so please sponsor me - we really need your support.

I'm even going to train this year - aiming for 26 minutes!

Thanks so much
Rosie
