Ross's Big Bicycle · 22 May 2010

Jimmy’s is a community-based charity with the belief that no-one should have to sleep rough in Cambridge. We provide safe places that people can call home. From emergency accommodation at our East Road shelter, longer term care at our multiple needs centre and in supported houses and modular homes.

Story

Hello, thanks for visiting my page!

I'm Ross and I'm cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats. I'll be starting the ride on the 22nd May and my sister is riding with me and my Dad is driving the support vehicle so we dont have to carry anything except grub and drink. I have set aside ten days to complete the ride. This equates to approx 100 miles a day. Quite a challenge indeed for a pair of novices but its all about testing yourself! I'll be sleeping in a tent every night to reflect the charity and I've also decided to grow a comedy gringo style tache. Although its for a very serious cause that I'm very passionate about, I don't see why I cant have fun doing it.

I struggled to find a charity because they are all worthy of everyones support. I changed my mind several times until someone told me about Jimmy's Kitchen. The next day I saw 'the man' again. I've seen him several times over the last 4 years and he's always shuffling along the side of the road on his own but with purpose. He's got a small rucksack with a roll mat and he looks quite elderly. He walks along the main roads of Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridge. I've no idea where he's going and why. How he managed to survive the winter we just had I don't know. He seems to have a purpose though and I think he's doing it by choice but theres so many more who find themselves on the street by a series of unfortunate catastrophies. We all have problems but at least we have a home to go to at the end of the day.

Quite tragic but for light relief see my website for further details/ developments
