Story

Having never been a long distance runner (I ran 2 miles last year and almost threw-up), I started training in May for a 2.5 mile leg in the "Stoke-to-London in 48 Hours" relay. Having to train for that event gave me the 'running bug' - and on the day of the event I ended up running 5 miles instead of my 2.5 miles.

As it was training for the 'Douglas Macmillan' run that has got me into the world of running - it only seems right that my first competitive event be to raise money for them. They provide respite for people with incurable Cancer (amongst other things), and rely on volunteers and fund-raising of £10.2 million each year to offer the services they do. This year is their 40th Anniversary and so the company I work for (Churchill) are looking to raise £40k for them.

A half-marathon is hard work for anyone, but even more so for someone who's been a little too fond of his 'seconds' at dinner over the years, and it'll be the donations for such a worthwhile cause that keep me going in the last few miles (actually - probably from the 1st mile onwards!!).

As I surpassed £200, I promised my work colleagues a second Half-Marathon. Roll-on Portis head Half Marathon on October 20th!
