Story
Thank you for taking the time to look at our page.
Who are we?
We’re both Firefighters based in Berkshire We carried out a similar challenge in the summer months a couple of years ago, but building on that we want to try a winter version!
What is the challenge?
Our aim is to try to survive the wilds of Britain for five days with minimal kit between 16 and 20 January.
You may well be thinking what can be hard about that? I know I did when this idea came about. The more I looked into it I realised that it wasn't what we are taking but more what we are leaving behind!
What we are allowed:
One 24 hour ration pack (ex army, minus the matches) An axe (or folding hand saw, that’ll be personal preference), Knife and a metal cooking tin each . That is really all!
What is not allowed:
Tents, sleeping bags/mats, matches, lighter, flints, fishing gear, snares, rope, plastic, fire lighters, extra food, torches, spare clothes or any thing else which might make life a bit more comfortable.
We will hopefully make a weather resistant shelter from natural materials and light a fire using friction (rubbing two sticks together). We will live off the land and rely on our knowledge of edible plants etc to keep us 'fed'. Our water will have to be sourced from streams (if we're very lucky), or failing that from still water pools/digging down to the water table (no spades remember). If any of these fail we are going to be very uncomfortable as well as hungry.
Please do donate on our page all proceeds going to The British Lung Foundation.
If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail or ring me.
Many thanks,
Ross and Miles
