Round the Island Race · 19 June 2010

We’re an independent charity working to improve lives of people with cancer and other serious conditions. We do this through medical research and by providing the best patient care using high quality scanners. Last year we scanned 18,000 patients giving them and their families hope for the future.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

We are a group of friends who sail dinghies in a sailing club called Queensmead Sailing Club (QSC), which is led by Bert May. The club is based at Hillingdon Outdoor Activity Centre (HOAC) where we were all taught to sail at various ages of our lives.

Last year a crew of eight entered the Round the Isle of Wight Race for the first time. We exceeded our expectations in coming 7th in our fleet of 51 yachts, and 201st out of 1779 entrants and our aim is to beat this position. For 2010 we wish to enter again, but this time with the aim of raising money for the Paul Strickland scanner department based Mount Vernon Hospital.

We are supporting a local charity that has a great impact for many in the borough. One of the crew even had to call on the use of the scanner last year. The club we all belong to (QSC) has strong ties with the Paul Strickland scanner department, so we would like to give something back to the local community that the crew grew up in.
