The Challenge

Get in a plane that you know you won’t be landing again in. Sit there while they fly you up to 13,000ft and then open the door. Strap up to the instructor, as he's the one with the parachute. Move to the open door and sit on the edge waiting for the go. Then ........... JUMP OUT OF A PLANE FLYING AT 13,000 FEEEEEEEEEET.

 Donations

All donations will go to Heart Link, I have already paid for the Sky Dive myself.

The Charity

This is a charity directly associated with Glenfield hospital where Edward my son had both of his heart operations and continues to have annual checkups. The Charity do a considerable amount of fund raising to provide the hospital with additional equipment, they recently funded the purchase of 4D scanner for £161k, they put on several annual events for the children associated with the unit, which gives them and their parents the opportunity to meet others who have or are going through similar experiences. Edward has attended many of these functions where we have made valuable friends. A major benefit for us was the parents accommodation wing and play centre, which Heart Link funded the development of and was built adjoining to the Children’s Cardiac Ward so parents could stay with their children during and after surgery.

What they are funding next

Heart Link have committed to funding £300,000 towards new parent accommodation at Glenfield Hospital.

Why we support them so much

Edward was born with a congenital heart condition known as Tetralogy of Fallot, which consists of four anatomical abnormalities of the heart. At 10 months old he had open heart surgery at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester, to repair these defects. Throughout Edwards surgery, and recovery, both my wife and I were able to stay close by in the accommodation wing attached to the ward, which Heart Link funded the building off. Edwards operation was very successful, however when he was eight years old he required open heart surgery again to replace his leaky pulmonary valve. Again we stayed with him throughout, courtesy of Heart Link. Edward is now a healthy happy teenager, but may need more surgery in the future and so we may have to call upon these invaluable services again.
