Please help us to bring some more smiles to Uganda!!
WHO?
Roy Dowling and Beverley Thompson are part of a team raising much needed funds to build a school in Uganda for the charity, Fields of Life. This is a charity working in Africa to relieve the poverty, pain and suffering of thousands of children. Last year Beverley joined a fact finding mission to Uganda to see at first hand what the team are doing to help the children of this developing country.
WHY?
Children in Uganda face a daily battle against grinding poverty ,a lack of protection, disease,malnutrition and desperate living conditions.
Its hard to imagine in 2013, but a quarter of the population does not have access to clean water, a quarter of all children suffer stunted growth due to malnutrition, malaria and diarrhoea are major killers and HIV/AIDS has created more than a million orphans.
Fields of Life provides the practical means to change young lives with education, health provision and access to food and and clean water.
We visited schools and orphanages giving hope to young people whose lives have been blighted by conditions and events that are out of their control and not of their making.
HOW?
In June of this year Roy and Beverley will be embarking on a trek to the top of Mount Elgon - on the Ugandan/Kenyan border. At 4,321m (14,177ft) it is one of the highest peaks in Africa. This extinct volcano is not on the tourist trail - and will present huge challenges to the team. However, the rewards are huge! With your kind sponsorship the team is aiming to raise enough money to build a school - to be run by Fields of Life - changing the lives of hundreds of youngsters.
Education really is the answer - and what could be more important than the future of children?
