3 peaks challenge in 24 hours · 19 June 2010

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Thank you!!!! to everyone who has sponsored so far, as you can now see, we completed the challenge in 22hrs and 54mins. Please keep the mopney rolling in as we are still hopeful to raise as much as we possibly can.

You're support so far has been a fantastic inspiration to us all and we are all extremely grateful for your help and generousity throughout.

We are doing the 3 Peaks Challenge to raise money for 'The Alzheimers Society'.

As some people already know our Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimers about 6 years ago and our family, especially our mother, have been working hard since then to take care of him and cater to his needs. Unfortunately, before Christmas 2009 dad had to be taken into care and we are now in the process of finding him a home that will be good enough to look after him.

Dad (Nick Wells) has been the rock of our family for so many years. He worked for BBC TV News for almost 40 years and has been responsible for broadcasting pictures and sound from around the world that have shaped all of our lives.  He has seen horrific events unravel as well as once-in-a-lifetime celebrations.  He has travelled to every corner of the globe to bring you the reality of what is happening and we must thank him for being such an important cog in the wheel for letting us know what is actually taking place whilst we are in our own comfort zone in the UK.

He is only 60 and we want to try to help him and others just like him by raising money for this unfair disease. Alzheimers affects so many people and can be such a strain that we want to raise as much as we can for The Alzheimers Society in appreciation for their continued support.

The 3 peaks challenge demands the ascent and descent of 3 mountains in 24hrs, those being Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafel Pike (England) and Snowdon (Wales). Driving time is included and the clock will start at the bottom of Ben Nevis and not stop until we reach the end of Snowdon. We will be climbing in all sorts of weather and in the light as well as darkness. Different personalities with a lack of sleep will surely be a good recipe for some eventful conversation and an unforgetable experience.

Hopefully with your loving support and kind hearts we can raise a total to be proud of.

P.s - We also wont be able to walk for a few days after so remember to dig deep in those pockets and spare a thought for the awkwardness stairs and standing will bring after we achieve this.
