We support Ward 3 at The Great North Children's Hospital, where families live in a protective bubble. Whether it’s funding cutting-edge research, providing emotional and practical support for families, or ensuring children can still be children, everything we do is centred around care and hope.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page I hope you will find my story worthy of your time and support.

I have one week until I toe the start line at the 2013 Salomon Kielder Marathon. It would be great if I could count on your support and generosity to help me get through this gruelling event on October 6th. I am running for The Bubble Foundation.

In May of 2008, I donated some bone marrow to an anomymous recipient. It transpires that she was a five month old baby, very poorly with a condition known as SCID Severe Combined Immuno Deficiency. Having been born with a depleated immune system she had to exist in a bubble of purified air with little or no contact with her mummy and daddy because of the risk of infection. An infection that could kill her.

Four years post transplant, I met Melody on her 5th birthday in December 2012, she is doing really well, a bright smiley child, full of fun. She has a lot of catching up to do and I am sure  she will get there, with the support of her family and the medical team in Newcastle General Hospital.

It was during this visit, I heard how much The Bubble Foundation had helped Melody and her family. The foundation funded Melody's operation and also accommodation for the family to live near the hospital making visiting Melody easier. They also provided first class care and support during what must have been a harrowing time for all concerned. As a charity, that is a huge financial commitment to one family, so presumably they would be grateful for any additional funds.

Please help me raise as much money as possible, whatever you can afford would be a tremendous boost to me in the final week before the event. I will be running hurt too, due to a knee injury picked up 10 days ago. I promise though I WILL FINISH!

Special thanks go to Dr Tom Feeney A.R.T (Active Release Techniques) practitioner at the Whitley Bay Chiropractic Centre for his efforts to get me back running again for the event and fixing my battered and bruised body after.

Thank you Tom, your help is very much appreciated, a true master of your craft.
