Fundraising for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity
Story
Did you know that almost one in every hundred children is born with a heart problem?
Though many cases can be dealt with through regular monitoring, a significant number of children will require life-saving open-heart surgery, often in the first weeks of life. Without this surgery, less than one in ten children with serious heart conditions will survive.
Birmingham Children’s Hospital has one of the busiest Children’s Heart Centres in the UK. Their internationally renowned Cardiac Unit sees over 10,000 children a year, with approximately 80% of surgeries being open-heart procedures, and around 60% performed on children under 12 months old.
Keeping up with the growing demand though is proving very difficult. This is why they need to replace their ageing facility with a new state-of-the-art one – and add a second cardiac theatre. This will be a new ‘hybrid’ cardiac theatre, the first of its kind at a UK children’s hospital. Here they’ll be able to perform surgical procedures and keyhole techniques simultaneously, offering exciting new horizons for the conditions they treat. It will also reduce the number of operations that children may need – and their lengths of stay in hospital.
Now, to have got this far and to have read this page, you probably know me or at least know of me.....
i 'don't do' excercise, i go everywhere in the car and have never been known to take the stairs when there is a lift or escalator option. I am absolutely terrified of heights.
I am going to attempt to reach the the top of all 15 of the mountains over 3000ft in Wales within the space of 24 hours, without using any form of transport.
The Length is about 24 Miles, but the walks to the start point (top of snowden!) and down from the finish point, can take it to to between 27-30 miles (route dependent).
Now if i can do that....Could you spare a few quid to spur me on?
Go on, don't bother with that packet of fags tomorrow - donate a fiver, or skip 3 pints at the weekend - that must be best part of a tenner. Go the whole hog - Cook you and your partner a nice meal next week and skip the £15-£20 takeway.
