<p>Having become a bit of a couch potato over the last few years what better way to restore a semblance of fitness than to run the London Marathon!!</p>
<p>I have successfully applied to run for my local hospice - St Clares (<a href="http://www.stclarehospice.org.uk/">http://www.stclarehospice.org.uk/</a>)</p>
<p class="Default"><span style="font-size: 11pt;">St Clare is a charity providing specialist palliative care to the communities of West Essex and the border of East Hertfordshire. Their services include inpatient care, day therapy, outpatient, bereavement support and caring for family and friends. The hospice currently only receives 24% funding from the NHS towards their £2.6m annual running costs. That is £5,414 a day they have to raise!</span><span style="color: navy; font-size: 11pt;"></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span style="font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; font-size: 11pt;">£5 </span></strong><span style="font-size: 11pt;">could pay for a<strong><span style="font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';"> </span></strong>day’s essential clinical supplies for one patient to be nursed on the In-patient Unit</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><strong><span style="font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';">£26</span></strong> could provide one patient with a complementary therapy assessment and aromatherapy treatment session</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><strong><span style="font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';">£39</span></strong> could provide one hour of counselling delivered by their specialist team</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><strong><span style="font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';">£73</span></strong> could run the 24 hour helpline for one day, offering advice and support to patients, families and healthcare professionals.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"> </span><strong><span style="font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';">£94</span></strong><span style="font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif';"> could provide help, advice and support from the Therapy Team in planning the care to support one patient returning home from the In-patient Unit</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-family: 'Arial','sans-serif'; font-size: 11pt;">£173.90</span></strong><span style="font-size: 11pt;"> could run the entire 8 bed In-patient Unit for one hour </span></p>
