Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of you already know I am planning to travel to Kenya in 2012, health permitting, with the charity 'Wheels for the World', part of 'Through the Roof' in my capacity as an Occupational Therapist. Please see http://www.throughtheroof.org/ourprogramme/wheels-for-the-world/distributions for more details on the charity. This trip is to distribute and fit wheelchairs, recycled from the NHS - deemed to be no longer fit for purpose, to people with disabilities in Kenya who would otherwise not have access to such equipment. Such people often crawl miles on the dusty gound just to get food or to get to school. It's an issue which I feel passionately about, that whilst living in the UK we often take for granted the healthcare and equipment that the NHS provides access to but there many people in other countries who don't have such provision. I would relish the opportunity to be able to use my skills as an Occupational Therapist, and the provision of these recycled wheelchairs, to benefit people in Kenya that don't have the opportunity to access equipment that can make such a massive difference to their everyday lives.

To raise money for this trip I have already had a coffee morning, a raffle, some football cards and a donation from Clark and Partners Mobility and raised over £700 but am now planning to have a sponsored knit-athon! The idea is that myself and a friend will knit (or crochet) for 12 hours. One of us will be knitting at all times from 9am to 9pm on 6th August. I would really appreciate your support for this worthy cause and the deserving people in Kenya.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
