This year I would like to raise money for a local charity - Friends for Leisure. The group support children and young adults with disabilities by promoting mainstream friendship and leisure activities. Volunteers, often young people themselves, take these youngsters on small trips eg cinema, bowling. They make a huge difference to the young adults and their carers.

In the summer of 2011, Friends for Leisure ran a very successful programme of holiday activities for their young people.  They were able to "have a go" at a range of new, mostly outdoor activities at mainstream venues: golf; tennis; "body blast" street dancing; horse-riding; football and bowling.  The programme promoted the benefits of participation in exciting and enjoyable outdoor activities and exercise, and also encouraged healthy lifestyle choices.

With 2012 being the year of the London Olympics, Friends for Leisure are looking forward to running a similar programme this summer, with additional activities and any donations made as part of Ruth's birthday celebrations will go towards this programme.
