Thanks for taking the time to visit the Durham Cathedral Team justgiving page for the Durham Big Ride.  A group of cyclists has once again completed the Durham Big Ride raising money in support of the Cathedral's acclaimed music outreach programme.   Team members are: Mish Kelly, Douglas Halliday, Daniel Halliday, Sophie Rackham, Sylvan Rackham, Ruth Robson and Harry Enticknap.   Please support the team in whatever way you can.

The Cathedral’s Music Outreach Programme creates opportunities for children age 8 – 13 to participate in and enjoy music making through singing.  Anyone can sing, and the benefits can be life changing.   It is good aerobic exercise and helps develop cognitive learning skills.   Participating in music making can boost confidence and encourage positive social skills.

Each school term the Cathedral Choristers, together with Mish Kelly, Director of Music Outreach, work with 8 primary schools from the region that culminates in a very special concert.  Participating schools sing together in the magnificent Cathedral in front of a packed audience of family and friends.  The teachers from the schools also take part in professional development sessions helping them develop their music leadership skills and also perform in the concert.

Some children who take part in the programme then choose to join the Cathedral’s community choir - Durham Cathedral Young Singers – which is open to any child aged between 8 to 13 who wishes to join.  It rehearses every Saturday morning during term time and always welcomes new members.  The Young Singers take part in special concerts, festivals and other events.  Special events they will be taking part in this year are a concert at the Cathedral by the Reg Vardy Band on the 29 October and Carols of Light on the 8 December, also at the Cathedral.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the Cathedral  and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. It is a very efficient way to donate.   Please support the Durham Cathedral Durham Big Ride team in whatever way you can.

Durham Cathedral is now working in partnership with the County Durham Community Foundation raising funds for an endowment fund to provide long term funding for the Music Outreach Programme.  If you would like to know more contact Christina Rackley christina@cdcf.org.uk
