Helen & Douglas House helps local families cope with the challenges of looking after a terminally ill baby or child who will die prematurely. We are a home from home for our patients and their families, and provide round-the-clock care in a warm, loving environment.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. One of the teams at BNP Paribas where I work visited Helen & Douglas House and were so moved by the facility that they decided to organise a 50 mile cycle challenge to help raise much needed funds. Both houses pioneer the highest levels of specialist care, offering medically supported short breaks, emergency care and end-of-life care to children and young adults. It costs over £4.5 million a year to run the two houses. With no guaranteed governement funding, they must raise 80% of this every year. If they fail beds will close.

So on Wednesday September 28th I will be joining the 50 mile cycle ride. This is my first fund-raising activity but I think its a fantastic cause. It will be a challenge as I almost never cycle more than the 6 miles to work (and this time there will be no "its raining - I'll get the bus") so please wish me good luck and good weather and do what you can to support us.

Thank you

Ruth
