Story

In a moment of sheer brilliance (or madness!), the Music Department at Wycombe High School decided to present the staff and friends of WHS with a challenge; to learn a new instrument and pass a Grade One exam in six months. Participants are being sponsored to raise money for the ‘Play Your Part’ campaign. We at WHS are looking to raise £1.5 million in order to build a new Music block and upgrade our Performing Arts facilities in other parts of the school, work that is desperately needed. The 'Play Your Part' campaign calls on everybody in our school community to use their many talents and skills in order to raise these funds.

As part of this challenge I decided that I would learn to play an instrument that I have always enjoyed listening to - the bassoon. Having managed to borrow an instrument from High Wycombe Music Centre I eagerly started practising and found out how difficult it is to even hold, let alone get notes out of. However I have now had a few lessons, with a very patient year 13 teacher and can make a reasonable attempt at two of the grade one pieces and 2 scales already.

I am very proud to be a part of the team of over 60 members of staff and am thoroughly enjoying my new skill.
