Story
With a common goal at interest Cyclists Fighting Cancer are working alongside Lease of Life to promote exercise and sport to children and young adults dealing with cancer. With this in mind the Ben Nevis Challenge has been organised to provide an opportunity for such people to walk the highest mountain in the UK. Ben Nevis rises majestically 4,400 feet above sea level.
We will be doing this climb over the weekend of the 27th of October and we are aiming to raise as much funds as possible for this fantastic cause. This is close to my heart as this will be the first annual event for Lease of Life. Having being diagnosed and beat testicular cancer I now want to be able to combine my physiotherapy knowledge and personal experience of living with cancer to encourage young adults and children with cancer to exercise and also provide them with the opportunity to participate in sport and activities.
This will be achieved by buying sports equipment and providing activity days/weekends such as this Ben Nevis climb, for young adults and children living with cancer. These are vital to
- Reduce the side effects of treatment
- Improve the patients mental state of mind
- Reduce your risk of relapsing
- And also improve your overall chance of living a healthier Life
We are also going to be visiting the holiday home for the CLIC Sargent charity (cancer and leukaemia in children) http://www.clicsargent.org.uk/content/holidays-and-specialist-short-breaks-0. The house is based in Scotland where they provide free holidays for family’s directly affected by cancer. Some of the funds raised will be providing sports equipment to the holiday home for future residence to benefit.
