DUQC 24 Hour Basketball Match · 29 May 2016

Established in 1981, the Newman Holiday Trust began by running a one week summer holiday for children with special needs. The Trust now provides holidays for about 130 children with special needs aged four to sixteen each year, in various locations around the UK. Due to the high level of skilled care they require or financial circumstances, the children selected for these breaks would not otherwise receive a holiday. The holidays provide a range of fun activities in a safe and supportive environment and use a care ration of one helper to one child at all times. The Trust is an entirely voluntary organization and owes its success to over 200 people who dedicate their free time to helping these children. This voluntary structure ensures that every penny raised goes directly towards a child's holiday.

Story

On the 29th May myself and 24 other foolhardy individuals are attempting to play basketball for 24 hours in order to raise money for the Newman Holiday Trust. As 90 minutes of football is a monumental struggle for me (calf cramps ARE a killer), God only knows what 10+ hours of such an unforgiving sport is going to do.

It is a fantastic charity that provides summer holidays for those with special needs, and it is reliant on the generosity of people to sustain the work it does. My individual target is just £100 which is so easily achievable; if 100 people gave £1 (Equivalent is a sambuca shot in KU!!!) then I'd reach that in no time at all. Any donation of any size is welcome as we aim to smash the £8000 that this brilliant event raised last year.

Even if a donation is too much, we'd love to have your support during the event, we'll be in the QC sports hall from 6pm on Sunday the 29th through to 6pm the following day!
