Story

This summer, a group of students and recent graduates from across the UK will travel to Durban, South Africa to take part in a cross-cultural leadership challenge that will engage, inspire, and equip them, and the young people they meet in South Africa, to make the most of their potential.

The South Africa Challenge is a full-on, hands-on, engaging opportunity for emerging leaders to develop core leadership and life skills by challenging them and empowering them to initiate and execute projects, develop cross-cultural partnerships, and challenge their own stereotypes.

Based in Durban, South Africa, participants are pushed beyond their comfort zones, required to come together as a team around the achievement of a shared vision and challenged to attempt and achieve things they never thought possible.

Building on the 2012 pilot, the vision of the 2013 South Africa Challenge is to create a financially sustainable scheme that will increase the impact of partner programmes in South Africa that are transforming lives.

Some of the projects to be initiated and executed by 2013 South Africa Challenge Participants include:

1. Social Hackathon, Durban - Crack Team of Product Designers, Innovators, Commercial, Marketing and Legal minds will review, shortlist and tackle a set of social issues.  Who knows what they'll come up with?

2. Make IT work - The World Changers Academy have recently received a generous donation of computers; but these are useless without the right software, and networking solutions that will enable them to link and access common files. Our IT crack team will fix that.

3. We give a Shit! -  Waste management was listed by our partners as one of the biggest challenges faced in rural townships. It's quite tricky as Monkey's tend to make a mess of things. We are going to try to find a sustainable way to fix that.

4. Social Entreprise Challenge - Durban is home to one of the world's most amazing social tourism destinations in the world.  But you have to visit to really know what we mean. How can we create and productise an experience that will enable people from all across the world - especially young future leaders to experience the sights, sounds, and smells of Durban while working to support, strengthen and enable our delivery partners to continue to empower young South Africans to make the most of their potential? We're going to figure this out and make it happen.

Thank you for your generosity. We are grateful you took the time to find out about and support our efforts to make a difference in South Africa.
