Beth (pictured) has a condition called Cerebral Palsy, which means that she has difficulty with major motion functions that would normally enable her to walk. She is lucky to be one of 65 children that goes to The School for Parents which is funded by the Dame Vera Lynn Trust. The School helps to teach her and her Mum how to learn movements that children normally learn automatically.

On 29th and 30th of May 2011, my friends and I will be cycling the 100 miles from Winchester to Eastbourne on the South Downs Way to help to raise money for children like Beth.
This is an off road route on tracks and bridal paths that seems to involve a lot more Ups than Downs, and could involve 20 hours of riding (for the slowest amongst us) over the 2 days
This is our group page, but some of us will also have individual pages. The "current" planned riders are:
Me (Glynn Taylor), Steve Ockenden, Graham Blake, Ian Chilvers, Tony Turrell, Julian Gasson, Tony Pierce, Andy Winter, Jon Fieldsend and Steve Walsh
Please ignore the targets, and give as much as you can. Even if you can only give us a pound, or a Euro, or a Dollar it will be gratefully received - and we promise to try and avoid the pubs en route and finish the ride!!!!
Thanks from all of us and from Beth and the School for Parents.

The Dame Vera Lynn Trust for Children with Cerebral Palsy near Billingshurst, West Sussex, is a special service for families of young children with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. Parents and children learn daily living skills together at our School for Parents using the principles of Conductive Education. We support families with babies and children under five years of age.
For a family to be suddenly and unexpectedly faced with the news that their child is affected by cerebral palsy is a life-altering experience. The special attention that their child will need in his or her early years is vital and early intervention is crucial. A highly skilled and professional team helps parents to recognise a child’s unique qualities and achievements. Every day is an exciting experience and parents can talk openly to each other about their child’s activities, sharing an understanding of each other’s situation.
The emphasis in School for Parents is to provide strong practical support for all parents who have children with special needs within a mutually sympathetic and encouraging environment. All the services we offer are provided free of charge, we receive no statutory funding and rely entirely on the support of the community to help raise the £540,000 needed every year to ensure that this vital and much needed service can continue.
