Easter 2007: one mission: to send Carl to the desert on a one way ticket!
I'm taking part in the 2007 "World's biggest hitchhike" to Morocco. 1,600 miles, at least three cities, 700 hitchers, it's sure to be a crazy ride, and all for a good cause.
The hitch is to raise funds for Link Community Development, a charity which works to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the most disadvantaged schools in Ghana, Malawi, South Africa and Uganda. Thanks to LCD, over half a million children will have had a better quality education, they have achieved more at school and will now have a better chance of a job. Their work will continue, with your help.
"It's through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor" Nelson Mandela
Please dig deep in order to send me on my way and provide some of the world's most disadvantaged kids get a good start. Not a penny from this goes to fund me (I'm meeting expenses from my own pocket), so all you give goes straight from your card to LCD. Give as much or as little as you can, even if I've already met my target. It all counts.
Whatever you donate, thank you very much! It means a lot to me, and I'm sure it'll mean an awful lot more to the kids who benefit from the work of LCD.
***News***
28/01/07: First, thanks to everyone who has donated so far, you're all ACE! However, if you haven't donated yet this is important: If you are a UK taxpayer please click the gift aid box! At no extra cost to you LCD can claim back tax on your donation, increasing what they receive by about 28% (£2.82 on every tenner donated). Thanks again people, and keep giving!
28/12/06: It has come to my attention that some people think money donated by the site is to be used to pay my expenses (beer money? cheeky buggers). This is simply not true. 100% of money donated on this page goes straight to LCD's bank account. I'm meeting travel expenses from my own pocket.
On a happier note Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year. Oh, and thanks to those of you who have already donated!
16/12/06: I noticed the donate page is rather pushy, asking for donations of £20, £50, or £100! I didn't select these figures and don't expect you to donate that much. I'm working on the rationale of a lot of people giving a fiver: who can't afford a fiver? However, give what you can. I'll love you forever.
