Story

Would you like to help the Guyana Expedition 2010 in its venture to assist the Wai Wai tribe, "guardians of the forest", in the remote south of Guyana?  More information about the Expedition can be found at the main website of SES-Explore, but what we would like to ask you today is to donate funding for:

1 £700 towards a new 15 hp Yamaha shortshaft outboard motor for a Wai Wai canoe.  River transportation remains vital to the day to day life of the Wai Wai.  Most of Guyana's infrastructure (including medical aid and education) is centred around Georgetown and the coastal regions, many miles distant from the Wai Wai lands.  Please help them to stay in touch when they need to, on their own terms.  Through friends in Guyana, we have found a suitable motor in Georgetown - all we need now are the funds to pay for it.

2 £400 towards robust, portable solar panels.  These must be able to withstand humidity and rough terrain, and are needed to power satellite phones/email in the remotest locations.  These will allow communication between the Expedition and the Wai Wai and are essential for the success of the project.

3 £750 for our objectives for improving sanitation and water safety, especially at village clinic sites (see also the fundraising page for our partner charity, Just A Drop).

We want to help this beautiful and remote area in the far south of Guyana to stay pristine, to safeguard its biodiversity, and protect the culture and livelihood of indiginous tribes who live there.  If the Wai Wai and other tribes do not receive assistance and support, it is far more likely that illegal loggers and miners will move into the area - that is why we have responded to the Wai Wai's request for to help sustain their community.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe - Justgiving never sell them or send unwanted emails. Your donation will be sent directly to the charity and Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. If we manage to raise more than our target (or not enough to meet it), we will use the funds wisely to assist the medical and environmental objectives of the Expedition.  Please donate now, and add your message of support! Thank you so much - your gift will make a real difference to the success of the Expedition.
