Virgin London Marathon 2013 · 21 April 2013 ·

People who are deafblind have substantial visual and hearing loss which causes extreme difficulty with communication, information and mobility. We aim to raise aspirations and expand the lives of Deafblind people, some of the least visible and most isolated members of society.

Story

Stephen Joyce and Don O'Brien are about to take on a gruelling challenge which will test their fitness and communication skills to the very limit. This is no ordinary London Marathon attempt.

Stephen lives with Usher Syndrome, meaning he is deaf and has Retinitis Pigmentosa (tunnel vision). Running a marathon with all your senses is hard enough, take away your hearing and most of your sight and the challenges is taken to another level.

Stephen will be guided for the first time by Don, a Deafblind Scotland supporter, who has never guided someone with Usher Syndrome before and will be unable to communicate fluently with Stephen as he does not understand sign language.

Please support both Stephen and Don by donating to Deafblind Scotland. The charity that aims to create:

"A society in which deafblind people have the permanent support and recognition necessary to be equal citizens."

Thank you.
