Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit this Just Giving page. Christmas is a time for giving and receiving. You may have already donated to a good cause this Christmas but if not then do think about this one.
We have all visited this region and been struck by the friendliness and hospitality of the Sierra Leonean people. Many whom we met lost friends and family during the war that ended ten years ago. More at BBC website. Many don’t have jobs and those that do work earn very modest amounts by Western standards.
Through our church in Oxford we have supported 3 schools in recent years.
Earlier this year Ian Gill a chemistry teacher spent a month working in a variety of Freetown schools, here is a link to a 12 minute film he made. The first 3+ minutes of the film is at a football match in Freetown and the chemistry lessons using local resources such as tropical flowers begins at around 4 minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1qbK9fyHb4
We wish to continue with this work in 2012 and if you are able to support then £5 will provide 2 text books and £30 will pay a junior teacher for a month. So whatever your gift it will make a difference.
With many thanks, best wishes for Christmas and the New Year
