Tuesday 27 April 2010

Just to say that the Marathon is behind us - it was an eventful day! I had a great run until mile 17, then I was, unfortunately , tripped and had to walk the remaining 9 miles - but I did finish in my slowest marathon time ever - 5hrs and 55 minutes!

Many thanks to everyone who has supported me in raising funds for the League of Friends of Teddington Memorial Hospital. It is still not too late if you have not done so, and would still like to add a donation.

Thank you all, once again!

Sue

I had the privilege of working for five years  as a physiotherapist at Teddington Memorial Hospital (TMH). I am now retired, but have continued there as a volunteer, and am also a Trustee of the League of Friends of Teddington Memorial Hospital. TMH serves the community of the Richmond and Twickenham areas and is much valued by the community. The League of Friends of Teddington Memorial Hospital work hard to raise the funds so desperately needed to help with improvements to the hospital which in turn benefit the patients. We also have regular commitments, such as providng daily newspapers for the patients on the wards - this costs about £6,000.00 a year. The League of Friends maintains a good Hospital Shop that is greatly appreciated by the patients, staff and visitors. We also fund and maintain a hot drinks machine, and snack machine in the Walk In Centre.

Examples of some of the projects undertaken by the League of Friends of TMH are,

The landscaping of the back garden of the hospital which was designed especially for the patients - with areas to walk, use wheel chairs and frames, and seats. This has been wonderfully succesful. In addition, the League is funding the maintenance of the garden for the next year.

Eight monitors were purchased for the recently opened One Stop Cardiac Clinic.

At Christmas, each in patient, and every member of staff on duty receives a Christmas bag containing gifts and a card from the League. In 2009 there were 110 bags.

I am so grateful for this opportunity to raise funds for this very worthy charity, and  have kick-started the fund by being the first person to donate, so.............

Please,  help me to acheive my target - every penny donated will help!
