Story
Hi, I’m Sabrina. I’m a WorldBytes volunteer and I’m running for my Freedom to Film. Over the last few years there have been noticeable restrictions on the rights to film in London, and I for one am worried that amazing charities like WorldBytes, are being deterred from trying to film in public spaces. As I’m sure you will appreciate, the regulatory climate has made things far more difficult now for filmmakers, photographers and even tourists to shoot in public places. I’m not talking about mobile phone use and the rash of voyeurism but the ‘jobsworths’ hell-bent on making life, well, hell. Never mind the million plus CCTV cameras recording us with impunity, put up a tripod in London and everyone from Beefeaters to community cops are on your back. We were stopped numerous times recently trying to shoot the John Wilkes story and the excuses on why “you can't film”, are limitless. We’ve had everything from ‘were protecting the vulnerable’ to ‘you might be paedophiles’ to ‘have you got a licence?’ (which you don’t need), to ‘the edge of this pavement is private.’If you’re concerned too or have been affected, then join me in running towards your Freedom to Film.
It’s easy to do via the justgiving page we’ve set up and it would be so encouraging to see a message from you there. It’s here http://www.justgiving.com/Freedomtofilm of course alternatively you could also run with us if your brave!
