Here's a bit about CHICKS and why i'm running for them....

CHICKS stands for Country Holidays for Inner City Kids, but there’s a lot more to it than just that. The children that CHICKS provide for have experienced or are living with the consequences of poverty, neglect, illness, abuse, living in care or are young carers themselves. CHICKS provide a safe, family orientated environment where the children can leave the stress and unhappiness behind them while laughing and learning from one another.

 

Over the summer I worked as one of eight volunteers for 16 children on one of their holidays in Cornwall. It was such a rewarding experience and leaving the kids at the end of the week it was clear how much of a difference the 6 day break had made to them. We did everything from horse riding to body boarding (the highlight of my week was encouraging a child that had never seen the sea into the waves!)

Children that had come with low self esteem left with tons of confidence, simply because they were giving the chance to try things they had never done before in a supportive environment.

I know its always said but every little bit of money really will help…. for example just £4 can provide a child with their first swimming lesson.
