The Ghana Education Project works in the region of Nkwanta in North East Ghana. It seeks to promote the development of the local community through education, training and the associated infrastructure. Our pioneering Girls’ School opened in September 2013. http://www.ghanaeducationproject.org.uk/

Story

Hi
I have been lucky enough to have been selected to go to Nkwanta, a small village in Ghana, next October with 14 other girls from my school to help teach English, Music, Science and Art in a school for 2 weeks as part of the Ghana Education Project.

As a team we are busy trying to raise £40,000 for the Ghana Education Project charity which will go towards funding the building and running of a new girls' school in Nkwanta which is situated in one of the most deprived and inaccessible parts of Ghana. There are twice as many boys in basic education in Nkwanta as there are girls - and many of these girls do not complete their education even though the first nine years are free.

We are all determined to reach this target, as the money would be able to fund building a substantial part of the school that will be combating illiteracy rates in women first hand. Therefore I would be exceptionally grateful - as would the girls in Nkwanta - if you could help by donating via my Just Giving page.

What have I done so far and what is next?
As part of our fundraising we have already completed a 13 mile sponsored walk around the Bewl Water reservoir which was exhausting - but great fun! Luckily we were blessed with excellent weather too. All of the girls took part in it as did many of their parents, as well as two of the girls' dogs!

We have held a Ghana fund raising evening for the parents and friends with the help of the local Soroptimists groups, where we all tucked into a Ghanaian inspired meal, ran a craft stall, held a fair trade chocolate raffle etc.

I have been busy making lots of cakes and Christmas crafts to sell to friends, family and the great crowd of people at Dad's work, who have been full of ideas and help.

Next school term is when we can arrange things in school so we are busy planning what we can do such as a music quiz and an auction of promises.
