Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

In memory of the much loved and dearly missed Phill Ward, we are raising money for Sarcoma UK by attempting to climb the THREE national peaks within 24 hours – that’s climbing the highest mountains in each of England, Scotland and Wales in just ONE DAY!

For those of you who know us, you will already be aware that this is not our usual 'run of the mill' activity. Never before have we attempted anything quite so challenging (and probably never will again!) but if we can reach our target and raise some seriously needed funds for research on Sarcomas and general awareness of these deadly cancers then it will have been worth it.

Sarcomas are rare cancers that develop in the muscle, bone, nerves, cartilage, tendons, blood vessels and the fatty and fibrous tissues and make up a large per cent of cancers that affect children, teenagers and young adults. A hugely popular character, Phill was no child (although some may argue his humour proved otherwise!) but he was still far too young when he was taken from us.

The proverbial cheeky chappy and a bit of a charmer who loved his comedy (films and shows like ‘Airplane’ and  'Blackadder' spring to mind) as much as his beloved West Ham United FC (but please don't let that put you off donating!), Cockney rhyming slang quoting Phill had a real zest for life and always made people laugh and smile wherever he went.

But early last year he was diagnosed with a form of Sarcoma. Just a few months previous, he had become a dad for the first time. Phill had everything to fight for and fight he did. With the positive support of close loved ones he underwent many sessions of therapy and operations. His courage and bravery amazed everyone that knew him.

On 19th August 2013, at the age of 35, Phill sadly lost his fight and passed away at home with his family by his side.

A loving partner, dad, son, brother, uncle and friend, Phill will be greatly missed but never forgotten..... RIP 'Wardie'

Sarcoma UK receives no government funding and relies entirely on voluntary donations. Our aim is to help them raise awareness and fund scientific research so that eventually more people will survive Sarcoma.

In time maybe we will move mountains and overcome cancer. For now we're 'just' going to climb some mountains! Please sponsor us and donate generously. For Phill.
