My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hi my name is Safaa, I am 2 and half years old and live in Preston. I was a normal healthy baby up until 11 months old when I had got a nasty Cancerous Tumour in my back and a condition called Opsoclonus Myoclonus Syndrome which now means my immune system is attacking parts of my brain so I can not stand, walk, talk and I get fed through a tube in my stomach as I am frightened of eating and choke. Also this syndrome makes me very unhappy and scared of everything as when I am very poorly my eyes, arms and legs shake.

I spend alot of time in hospital and have lots of doctors poking me with needles, I am very prone to catch infections and have to have lots of different medicines to help me get better. I have started to attend The Legacy Rainbow House which is a specialist charity that help sick and disabled children like me to learn normal day to day skills such as how to hold a spoon and eat yoghurt!

The Legacy Rainbow House is the only place in the North that offers this therapy and is vitally important to me and to the other 80 children who attend therapy sessions. When I became ill I was unable to even sit up by myself but thanks to the wonderful staff at The Legacy Rainbow House I am now able to crawl which most people take for granted and can also pull myself up and sit up unaided.

I have 2 sessions a week were they make me do physical exercises and teach me to be more independent and learn to walk and talk, I am also learning sign language so I can communicate and tell people what I want.

I want to be able to continue to do all this and hopefully with the help of The Legacy Rainbow House one day be able to walk with my mummy and daddy instead of them having to carry me and be able to play with my friends.

In order for this theraphy to continue we need to raise £3,000 for this year 2012 and then for each year. My mummy, daddy, family and friends are doing lots of different fundraising activities to raise this money.

My mum is doing a 11 mile rainbow ramble and dad is doing a run from preston to blackburn and a swim.

Please please will you help them and help me to achieve my dream of being independent by donating as much as you can!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
