Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you know, swimming is my passion and the pool is where you'll often find me when Im not at work learning about caring for premature babies and sick children. This year, my swimming challenge is the Manhattan Island Swim 2010, a 28.5miles full anti-clockwise circumnavigation around Manhattan Island, New York, USA.
Since August I have had such an eye opening experience working with premature babies and sick term babies both at Homerton University Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the North Middlesex University Hospital Special Care Baby Unit. These babies are fighters, being born into the world far too early in many cases, but doing their best to stay alive. It is the teamwork between the doctors, nurses, physios, dieticians, social workers.... everyone involved (and Im sorry if Ive left hundreds of healthcare professionals out on my short list) who work hard to ensure these babies can get home to be with their mummys and daddys.
Neonatal medicine is a new branch of medicine and alot of research and knowledge is still out there to be discovered. With the few pennies or pounds that I can raise from doing my swim and from your help, this knowledge can be brought forward that tiny little step. This may be sufficient to keep a few more babies alive and well. If I can help just one then I'll be happy.... and I'll be able to do this with your help.
Please dig deep, donate a few pennies or pounds and help me along the way to keep these tiny human beings alive. ALL money raised will go towards Bliss, the 'only national charity dedicated to improving both the survival and long-term quality of life for babies born too soon, too small or too sick to cope on their own'.
Thank you thank you thank you.
I will do my best to swim for these little heros also :)
Love
