My story
Over the past four years we have been embarking on a walk from Salisbury which will ultimately see us reach the Atlantic Coast following the route of the ex Southern Railways Atlantic Coast Express.
In 2009 we walked from Salisbury to Gillingham raising £2300 for the Portsmouth Hospital Trust Renal Unit.
In 2010 the walk continued from Gillingham to Yeovil Junction with £1500 raised for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
Last year saw the intrepid bunch (which since 2010, has included 2 extra keen dogs (Smoky and Bandit)) make it to Chard Junction. A staggering figure of £3300 was raised for MNDA (Motor Neurone Disease Association).
On 30 March 2012 we will be setting off again, this time from Chard with the destination this year being the former Sidmouth Junction station which, since 1971 has been known as Feniton.
This year’s chosen charity is the Salisbury Hospicecare Trust.
Salisbury Hospice provides specialist palliative care services in the Salisbury, Wiltshire area including Amesbury, Tidworth, Mere, Fordingbridge, Wilton and Whiteparish. People who benefit from Salisbury Hospice are those faced with a progressive life limiting disease, the majority of whom will have cancer.
The hospice is situated on the southern boundary of Salisbury District Hospital in a modern, purpose built facility. The hospice provides care and support each day for 10 in-patients & over 180 patients in their homes or hospital, as well as support for their families and friends. Salisbury Hospicecare Trust is committed to raising over £1,000,000 annually to maintain and develop the service based at Salisbury Hospice and we hope to help them with their goal.
