Sony Ericsson Run to the Beat 2009 · 27 September 2009 ·

The charity buys roundabout wells for communities in Africa. As children play on the roundabout they pump clean water up into a large holding tank. A single well costs just £6,500 to install and can provide up to 2000 people with fresh water.

Story

Lawrence Prifti was my brother's nephew who died from an extremely rare degenerative condition called Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD).  Within six months of the diagnosis he was unable to move, could no longer talk and had to be fed by tube.  Lawrence died in July 2005, aged 8.  His parents wanted to focus on something positive to keep his memory alive and stumbled upon an article about Roundabout Playpumps which draws clean water from the ground. There are more than 1,000 playpumps in South Africa, Swaziland and Lesotho.   Lawrence's parents have so far raised over £168,000, each playpump costing £7,500.

We are hoping to add to that total by taking part in a half marathon race called "Run to the Beat" (so called as there is music played throughout the run) on Sunday 27th September and hope that you will feel able to support us in raising money for this worthy charity.

Thank you for your time and support.
