Story

Thanks for looking at our page. Esmé isn't taking part on her own, Sally and Mollie are going too!

This year, every competitor is allocated a member of the armed forces who has been tragically killed in action. Race wear will have 'In memory of...' on it.   Here are our soldiers:

Sally will be walking in memory of Lance Corporal James Ashworth and here is his story https://www.gov.uk/government/fatalities/lance-corporal-james-ashworth-killed-in-afghanistan

Lance Corporal James Ashworth

L/Cpl Ashworth - the first recipient of the VC since 2006 - was chasing a sniper protected by covering fire when he was shot in Helmand.  A report on his actions said his platoon had broken up a sharpshooter team and he was alone in pursuing the one remaining member.  L/Cpl Ashworth died as he was about to throw a grenade.

Mollie will be walking in memory of Rifleman Liam Maughan https://www.gov.uk/government/fatalities/rifleman-liam-maughan-of-3-rifles-killed-in-afghanistan
