We are a 24 hour search & rescue service to save lives at sea

Story

Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page to help support a very worthy cause, RNLI Jersey.

To help inspire me, in my attempt at the Two-Way Cross Channel Swim, I am attempting this month (September 2014), my goal is to raise at least £10,000 for the RNLI here in Jersey.  With a little support from a lot of people I know achieving this or more will help me to the finish line.

After waiting for one month my last chance this year is the 15th-18th September - crossing flippers!

A bit of background to help paint the picture:

I live in Jersey and have been sea swimming all my life.  I even learned to swim in the sea over here as a very young child! No chlorine available then!

I was part of a small group of enthusiasts who formed the Jersey Long Distance Swimming Club (JLDSC) in 1974 and became President in 1988 and am very proud to have continued in that role until today and to have had the opportunity to train and encourage so many children and adults in Jersey to swim.

I swam the English Channel in 1975, 1985, 1992, 2005 and 2013 - I have never stopped swimming...........not only do I swim but I teach and coach swimming - WATER is my life!

This is my husband, Charlie’s, summary for you:

"Swimming the Channel one-way is a daunting task, to aim for a two-way is attempted by only the best in the business. Just to put a bit of meat on the bones of Sal’s aquatic career I offer the following:

- Sally has conquered the Channel five times so far as a solo swimmer, plus several in relay’s.

- In 2005, Sally was inducted into the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame for her 4th Channel swim in as many decades.

- Sally is the only woman in the world to have swum the Channel (22 miles) in FIVE separate decades, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, 00's and last year in 2013.

- Round Manhattan Island (NYC) 28 miles.

- Sally is the only woman to have swum from Sark to Jersey (June 2014)

- She’s also swum the Catalina Channel from Catalina Island to the Californian coast (2nd British woman) 21 miles.

When Sally completed Catalina, she became the first Jersey swimmer to attain the USA “Triple Crown’ Certificate – for her English Channel, Manhattan and Catalina swims.

- Round Jersey 41 miles.

- Jersey to France 17 miles.

- Windermere Solo swim, Twice and the International 16 miles

plus:

representing Great Britain in Long Distance swimming throughout Europe.

Sally's training for the two-way Channel has been extraordinary, in fact she never stops, it has included the Arizona SCAR Swim Challenge in May - 44 miles in 4 days (just under 24 hrs of swimming), the successful Sark to Jersey swim at the end of June, plus many lonely hours in and around the coastal waters of Jersey.

So - after an attempt last year at the Two-Way Channel, when she was extremely sick for 14 hours, and the weather broke when she reached France, although she ensured she completed her 5th Solo in 5 decades - Sally is now back again for another shot.

When Sally succeeds, she will become the Oldest Woman / swimmer to complete a Two-Way, another amazing record and another large charitable campaign completed for the RNLI.

So, PLEASE GIVE GENEROUSLY – the RNLI and Sally needs your support!
