<p>On July 10th I'll be running the British 10k for the charity 'Anthony Nolan'.</p>
<p>The charity was founded on the vision to start a bone marrow register that would connect potential donors with patients who desperately needed a transplant.</p>
<p>The Anthony Nolan charity created the world’s first register of people willing to donate their stem cells and now we have the UK’s first dedicated cord blood bank. At present, over 3,000 blood stem cell (which is found in bone marrow) transplants take place every year.</p>
<p><br />They aim to:</p>
<p>- Grow the register to include 1 million potential donors,</p>
<p>- Meet 80% of transplant requests, and</p>
<p>- Bank 15,000 umbilical cord blood units. </p>
<p>If these 3 main aims can be achieved, <strong>twice as many lives </strong>can be saved.</p>

<p><strong>For every £1 that you donate: </strong></p>
<p><strong>- 82p</strong> goes to help save lives. This 82p includes finding overseas donors, recruiting new donors<span style="color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;"> </span>and providing donors. <br /><br /><strong>- 9p </strong>goes to research. This includes cord blood research, and finding ways to make stem cell transplantation more successful. <br /><br /><strong>- 8p</strong> goes to raising more money. This includes fundraising activities. <br /><strong>- 1p</strong> goes to administration. This includes the day-to-day running of the charity.</p>
