Over a long lunch at Bonhams in Edinburgh, Alan and I chatted about being 50 this year and having a list of things to do. One of the things on my list was to climb Ben Nevis, and due to an excess of Drambuie, I found myself agreeing to walk up it to raise money for the PBC foundation. As you probably know both my mum and my daughter have PBC and the foundation has been a fantastic source of support for both of them.

Those of you who know me well will realise that this is a really big thing for me to undertake. I do my bit for charity now and again and I once strolled round the Bristol Downs for the 5k Race for Life. I've even cycled round Cuba - but Ben Nevis is a bit different - have you seen it? It's a real mountain with snow and rocks and everything. If I'm going to get myself up it and then back down again, I will really need your support combined with the knowledge that if I don't do it I will be letting both you and the foundation down.
