Story
Thank you so much for visiting my JustGiving page.
When I came to live here in this small Spanish village of La Herradura I met a lovely couple, Anne and Keith but I didn't know then how special they were. They come from Clithero and knew of the cement works my Grand Father Parkinson owned. I never knew him as he died when my Father was 7, and have never been to Clithero. Still it was nice to meet someone with whom a little of my history struck a chord - until I realised that the cement works was a bit of an eye sore and perhaps not overy popular and that Keith suffered from Parkinsons; I changed the subject! Then not long after meeting them I heard, through their daughter Kim, who had moved here that Anne had been diagnosed with liver cancer and wasn't expected to live more than 3 months. It was a terrible time but she had a miracle operation conducted by a Chinese surgeon and within a year and at the age of 65 ran The Great Wall of China marathon, in his honour. She has found time to mentor & support me and my 4 co-runners training for this Marathon whilst looking after Keith who has advanced Parkinsons and is changing treatment and also had the worry for one of her children who was also diagnosed with a life threatening condition (thankfully that has been resolved). I am running this, my first marathon at a not so grand age of 54, in honour of Keith, Anne and family to raise funding for researching new treatments and a cure for Parkinsons - a truly horrible condition that attacks mind and body and steals dignity. Any donations greatfully received - they WILL make a difference.
