OSCAR Dragon Boat Race 2019 · 13 September 2019 ·

We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

The Beazley Marine team are putting their teamwork to the test and are competing in a Dragon Boat Race to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Main objectives being :

  • Avoid a total loss of our vessel.
  • Find oars short enough for Charlie, Ollie and James to paddle.
  • Raise as much money as possible for Great Ormond Street Hospital and specifically The Oscar Campaign.

The Oscar Campaign raises funds towards areas of urgent need at Great Ormond Street Hospital and its research partner, the UCL Institute of Child Health. The campaign is raising money to support priority areas of research which will improve children's lives worldwide.

The campaign is led by Phil Parry whose Son Oscar was diagnosed with Leukaemia at just three years old. Oscar recieved three life-saving transplants at GOSH, one of which was a ground-breaking stem cell transplant. He is living proof of the importance of pioneering research; had he been in the same situation a year earlier it would have been unlikely he would have survived. Oscar is now 20 years old and working as a chef cooking banquets in the livery halls of the City of London. Oscar's story is only really possible thanks to fundraising that enables research to go beyond the funding available from the public purse.
