I am running the London Royal Parks Half Marathon on October 10th AND the Beachy Head Marathon on October 23rd 2010 in memory of Toby Hart. I met Toby at Sussex University in 1989 and he was one of my closest friends for twenty years. Almost a year ago, after months of mental anguish, he chose to hang himself.
I am running the Beachy Head Marathon on the anniversary of his death to raise money for MIND, the mental health charity. I want to help other people who find themselves suffering as Toby suffered and also those people whose lives are changed forever by the suicide of someone close to them. The last months have been hard for everyone who misses him. Toby was a part of my life and my life is worse without him. MIND helps support people who suffer from mental illness of any kind.
In a horrible twist, following the Coroner's Inquest into Toby's death, his uncle, Patrick O'Connor, collapsed and died outside his home in central London. See his obituary: http://ow.ly/2rjlY
