If you have met or spoken to me in the last 6 months I will already have "casually” dropped into conversation that in September I will be doing the infamous Lands End to John O'Groats cycling challenge.

For those who don't know, this is the challenge of cycling the length of mainland UK which equates to just short of 1,000 miles in 9 days. For the non-mathematicians amongst you that is circa 110 miles a day for nine days in a row. I am also going to put it in kilometres as that always sounds like more, it is circa 177km a day for nine days in a row. 

This is a challenge for even a seasoned cyclist, for which I am certainly not, I hadn't stepped foot on a road bike before starting to train for this event and, again, for anyone who has met or spoken to me over the last 9 months will know, the training is hard and very boring. Much like runners, cyclist tell you it is a sport that you just fall in love with but after 2000km in the past 6 months I am still waiting for this happen.

Why, might you ask, am I doing this? Well it is in aid of the charity Oasis Child Care. This is a children's charity based in Elmbridge which aims to keeps at risk kids with their families and out of the social care system. They really do some amazing work and if you have a moment please visit their website and have look, as they, unsurprisingly, will do a much better job explaining the huge impact they have on children's lives than I can.

I am able to do this through the Advanta Foundation, which has chosen Oasis as the recipient of the funds raised by those taking part in the challenge in September.

The Advanta Foundation was started in 2005 and throughout the years has raised an astounding £650,000 through various challenges and fundraising events. Every single penny raised by the Foundation has gone to help a child in need and the cost of hosting any event, challenge or social occasion has been met by Advanta Wealth to ensure that all funds raised benefit the charity directly.
