11/10/09 - I did it!! 1hour 47mins 23 seconds - under the target of 1:50. Thank you all for your generous sponsorship and support. There is still some to collect, so with this and the British Sugar money-match, we will have broken the £3k barrier!
26/08/09 - we've got a scan today, so we get to see Baby S-H again. We'll post a scan picture on here tonight!
NEWS JUST IN!!! - British Sugar have very kindly agreed to "MoneyMatch" anything I raise up to a maximum of £2,000! This means double the money going to CLAPA, which is brilliant!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the Great Eastern Half Marathon in October in aid of CLAPA (Cleft Lip and Palate Association). At our 20 week scan, our baby was diagnosed with a unilateral, right-sided cleft lip. Like father, like baby!! Having been born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate 29 years ago, CLAPA is a charity that has been close to my heart through out my life. Now, even more so. In the short time we have know about Baby S-H having a cleft lip, the support and advice we have received from the Cambs branch of CLAPA has been fantastic.
Fi and and I ran this course as a couple last year, but Fi isn't so keen this year (!). However, I know that both of them will be cheering me on from the sidelines, every step of the way, to help me achieve my aim of a sub-1:50 half.
Looking forward, our baby will have surgery at 3 months (approx Feb 2010), and depending on whether the palate is affected as well (the doctors think not at this stage) there will be further appointments, and possibly surgery, for the next 20 years. Throughout this time, CLAPA offer to provide help and guidance to us, as they do all other couples in this situation.
For further information on cleft lip and palate, and on the work CLAPA do, please visit their website >> www.clapa.com.
Many, many thanks for your generosity and support,
Sam (and Fi and Baby S-H)
