Virgin London Marathon 2012 · 22 April 2012 ·

We assist the Diocese of the Rift Valley, in education, health and development. Our projects for 2024 are: 1) To update our anaesthetics machine. This will attract specialist surgeons, making more surgeries possible and surgery safer. 2) To replace mattresses for students at St John's.

Story

Hello everyone!

I will be running the Virgin Marathon next April 22nd 2012. It's always been a dream of mine and I finally have the chance to to do, so am very chuffed and will be training as hard as I can.

I'm raising money for two charities: The Kilimatinde Trust and HopeZim.

The Kilimatinde Trust is a charity that supports the village of Kilimatinde in central Tanzania. I spent 6 brilliant weeks on my elective during final year of medical school experiencing the life of a doctor in rural Tanzania. Kilimatinde Hospital is very dear to my heart and is massively under funded. Just over £100 will raise enough for a year's supply of medication. The people who work there are wonderfully friendly and welcoming despite their poverty. They give without thought of return and I hope to be provide them with the basics we take for granted e.g. tourniquets, intravenous lines, clean needles, syringes. I have seen first hand the equipment they lack e.g. in labour ward, local anaesthetic was available but no clean needles therefore women with tears after birth had to bear being sewn up with no pain relief. This is something so easy that I would like to provide.

HopeZim is a charity that is important to me as one of my close friends, Martha McAllister, has moved to Zimbabwe to build a school for primary school age children who otherwise will simply not be able to get an education. They are currently in the process of building the school & I would like any donation to go towards providing books, pens, pencils and a good supply of toothbrushes, as teeth-brushing appears to be one of the children's favourite activities at school!

I know times are tough at the moment, so I truly so mean that any donation you feel you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
