Evie was born with a fused skull. If she didn't have an operation her head would continue to grow abnormally and her brain function could have been compromised. So we had no choice, we had to allow the Drs to "cut off the top of her head like a hat" as the surgeon put it! The op ended up being cancelled 4 times through Evie's illness (she caught pneumonia just before one date!) or another child in greater need of it. Twice we went all the way to Oxford and stayed for free at the RMH. It's right in the middle of hospital so we were never more than a few minutes away from her. It was quiet and calm and we met some amazing families with stories of incredible sadness, bravery and love. We all shared one thing in common, we had a place to stay that didn't cost us hundreds of pounds each time, that was very close to our children so we could always be together, but also sleep! They rely entirely on charity to stay open, it's essential that we support them.
