This summer, I am going to India for 3 weeks to the ‘Magic Bus’ centre in the outskirts of Mumbai. Magic Bus is a charity designed to help young slum children develop life skills, which they need to build a better life for themselves, through sport. The charity focuses largely on football and cricket, an aspect which I am very excited about because (as you may already know) they are both sports that I am passionate about. While playing sport, the children are given a rare chance to enjoy themselves and build up their confidence and self-esteem so that they can realise their potential more fully. The children are mentored by local workers, and some of these mentors have actually come through the Magic Bus programme themselves. The work of Magic Bus is widely supported by sporting organisations from around the world – most notably by the Barclays Premier League, the England and Wales Cricket Board, and FIFA.
