sams_mission is the name given to the ongoing fundraising efforts of 30 year old Sam Snelling, (Harlow, Essex). Sam is passionate about fundraising and there’s a very good reason for that. On 27 May 2011 Sam’s son, Ralph Jack Snelling, was born at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Harlow. Before Sam was even able to hold his own son, and within minutes of his arrival, Ralph was taken away and rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) where he was immediately put in an incubator. Ralph had swallowed maconium, his lungs had collapsed and his kidneys had failed. Ralph spent the next six days in NICU, receiving round the clock care and undergoing various treatments and procedures. It was three days before Sam, and his wife Nina, were able to hold Ralph.

 

Thanks to the excellent care and attention of the medical team in NICU Ralph went on to make a full recovery and was finally allowed home. He has had a few ups and downs with his health since then, but he has grown up to be a very happy boy, and he is a real character! Sam has no doubt that the quick response and dedication Ralph received in NICU saved his life. The nurses and doctors were first class; they provided reassurance throughout Ralph’s stay in hospital, keeping Sam and Nina fully informed and making them feel as comfortable as possible during this difficult time.

 

Unfortunately, this care requires a large amount of time and equipment which is very expensive but vital in caring for many babies. Our mission is to raise as much as we can to help those poor babies and families that find themselves in the same situation.

What’s more, because we’re an entirely volunteer-run organisation, 100% of the money donated goes straight to the cause. No rent, no wages, no waste.
