On 19th March, I'll be strapped to a skydiving instructor and shuffled to the open door of a fully-functioning aeroplane before being hurled to my (possible) certain doom. Those of you who know me, know that I'm terrified of heights*. I'm also not too keen on the idea of making a horrible messy hole in the middle of Cambridgeshire.
Those of you who know Community Links (http://www.community-links.org) will know what a great job they are doing in East London. Some of their highlights from 2010 include: -
• Ran youth clubs and children’s activities for almost 4000 young people
• Advised almost 9,000 people with benefits, housing and debt problems
• Ran the most successful New Deal project in London and the South East, helping over 5,000 people look for work
• Worked with 144 young people excluded from mainstream education, in our own Community Links school, notching up a 93% A*-G pass rate at GCSE.
• Organised 35 grassroots meetings around the country, with over 550 participants, as part of our work on the European Year Against Poverty.
Community Links directly benefit the lives of 30,000 people each year, through 60 projects in some of the country's most deprived communities.
David Cameron (the UK Prime Minister) called Community Links "One of Britain’s most inspiring community organisations". Please don't let his endorsement stop you from sponsoring me though.
Please give generously, tick the Gift Aid box (if you're a qualifying UK taxpayer) and I'll work on encouraging State Street to match your donations. Spectators are welcome to come to the event, but I'd appreciate it if you could bring scatter cushions, airbeds and the like, and please don't bet on the outcome...
*Qualifying definition of a "height" is anything over 5'10" off the ground.
