On the morning of Sunday 2 October the Treasury team of Man Group will be abseiling down the outside of Guys’ Hospital! For those who don’t know Guys’ Hospital, it’s the tallest hospital building in the world, standing at 142.6m/500ft with 34 floors. Let’s put this in to perspective; our new building, Riverbank House, is “only” 9 floors and 150ft tall! If this all sounds a bit crazy, it gets even better! Not only will the complete Treasury team be up (and then down!) for this mad challenge, but we have managed to rope in (pardon the pun!) our one-and-only Finance Director, Mr Kevin Hayes! Yes, subject to availability (which is now absolutely confirmed in writing) and life insurance (to be confirmed!), Kevin will be joining us for the “fun”. So, why on a quiet Sunday morning (after a big night out the night before!) are we doing such a mad thing? The answer is very simple……for a very good cause. We will be raising money for Man’s Charity of the Year, The Place2Be. When it comes to tackling society’s problems, prevention is better than cure. Children who show challenging behaviour are usually hiding deeper issues and those facing challenges such as bullying or domestic abuse can easily go off the rails. That’s why it’s so important to tackle children’s problems before they grow. The Place2Be is an innovative charity working in schools to support children, families and the wider school community. Their counselling and support services help to stop the downward spiral into problem behaviour by enabling children to cope with their problems and allow them to concentrate on their learning - instead of caving in or lashing out. The result is happier children, with better prospects and that benefits everyone. We aren’t powerless to change society; it all starts by changing a life. So, on Sunday 2 October we will be scaring ourselves witless in support of this very important cause, and you know what comes next! Please please support us by supporting The Place2Be and in turn make a meaningful difference to children’s lives and prospects.
